A personal review of tarot-like “Food Fortunes” deck by Josh LaFayette, released in 2016. 78 cards of foods and drinks around the world. Have fun!
Its Designs
Major Arcana (TRUMPS)
Minor Arcana
Minor Arcana has four suites “MAINS” “SIDES” “SWEETS” and “DRINKS”, each consisting of 14 cards including aces and coat cards. The court cards are like that of Rider Waite tarot that are; King, Queen, Knight and Page.
Overview/Features
It says “What’s for dinner tonight?”
There is no word “Tarot” printed anywhere in the outer box nor guidebook of this deck, but it looks like tarot indeed. Apply the meaning of tarot or make your own rules.
70 x 121 mm in size, almost the same as the the Rider Waite standard version.
The attached manual is full of jokes, a couple of spreads are also explained in it.
Personal Impressions
What I like
A unique place. I'm parodying tarot. I like this kind of playfulness. 1-ou Japanese dishes such as ramen and sushi (?) There is also a small menu, but there are few.
What I don’t like
The cardstock is thin, but who cares when this deck is “one and only”.
Where to buy
As of early 2021, it was available in several online shops.
Wrap Up
I also made a video, so have a look if you feel like!
