A review of an ocean-themed tarot, “A Siren’s Melody Tarot”, 2020.

Its Designs

The use of colour is impressive.

Major Arcana

The 12th card, which is normally called as “The Hanging Man”, is written here as “The Hunged One”.

Minor Arcana

English letters for numbers are omitted. Court cards as well are displayed in numbers only. Page is XI, Knight is XII, Queen is XIII and King is XIV. In addition, the court cards also indicate their crowns at the bottom.

Overview/Features

The actual size is 69 mm × 121 mm, almost the same as a standard Rider Waite version.

The author/designer of this deck is Ms. Lauren Sleeper. There are four different versions of this deck for sale. (i) Standard (w/o keywords), (ii) Standard (with keywords), (iii) Deluxe, and (iv) Miniature. I bought (i) Standard (w/o keywords).

Version (ii) has a keyword written at the bottom of the card. The left side of the photo below is (i) without keywords, and the right side is (ii) with keywords.

Version (iii) Deluxe has a gold foil on the back of the cards, with beautifully glittering reflections. One Deluxe card is attached as a sample in my package, so let’s compare these two. The left side of the photo below is the (i) standard, and the right is (ii) deluxe.siren's melody

As you can see, the colours are also different, the standard is blueish and the deluxe greenish. The standard version on the left does not have golden foil.

I don’t have a sample of version (iv) miniature. This version is quite small in size and has no keywords on it. The back card design is also different from the standard version.

No booklet is attached. Instead, a sheet of paper with a double-sided print is enclosed for the version (i), standard without keywords. Keywords of all cards are written there, both uprights and reverses.

Personal Impressions

What I like

I was waiting for a sea-themed deck like this. I’m quite satisfied now and happy to own this deck.

The paper is thick and in good quality, and coated with a velvet finish. No golden gild. Printing is beautiful.

What I don’t like

I think of nothing so far…By the way, the first card of each suite is generally called “Ace”, but here it is called “ONE”. Some people may not like this. I don’t care, though.

Where to buy

As of the end of 2020, it is sold privately on the author’s etsy site.

Wrap Up

For your reference, I made a video for this deck. Please have a look if you like!
